Techie talk - that makes sense

Between them, father and son team, Ian and Peter Godman have an impressive technical background. Ian has spent his entire working life in technical areas from delivering multi-million pound projects to running his own computer shop, so he knows the market from end to end. He’s launched two multi-national organisations and now his latest concept, phpSweet, under the newly formed Universal Dynamic Systems Ltd (UDSL).

Explaining how phpSweet was developed, Ian says,

"Talking to designers, it quickly became clear that the development part of creating a website is an area of frustration. Those who had coding skills find themselves spending more time coding than doing the part they really enjoy - designing. Those who deal with development companies for the technical end find that the techies always want to change their designs - or when the website needs to change, take ages doing it. When I offered them the option of a flexible template that they could do what they liked with, they almost bit my hand off!"

Peter started to learn coding when he was just eight years old and since then has worked on projects such as the Live Nation ticketing websites (handling high profile events such as Madonna’s concerts), developing software for an insurance company and a varied career during his 7 years as a contractor coding in a variety of languages.

"We’ve tried using other applications and frameworks and they’re great at doing what they’re meant to do, but as a soon as you want to do something different you’re fighting the application. You can work around it, but as soon as there’s an upgrade, you’re in another battle. We decided to stop spending time in battle and use it to design something that actually did what we wanted it to do," explains Peter.

Between them this two-generational team have created a software approach that gives web designers the freedom to ‘do their thing’ without having to worry about the technical aspects.
